Karen Mary John
Foundation Stage Teacher
Karen was born and raised in the UK and initially trained in Structural Engineering.
After fourteen years of Engineering Karen retrained in teaching gaining Childcare Development, Playwork and CELTA teaching qualifications in Birmingham, UK.
She spent a year teaching English in Solihull College of Further Education and Waverley Children’s Centre in Birmingham, before deciding to focus on Early Years education. She joined the Starbank School Early Years team working in both Nursery and Reception classes.
Karen moved to Egypt in 2010 and spent six years working at an international school in Cairo where she trialed the use of Ipads in Early Years.
She then moved into Year One as a team leader, leading a team of six teachers for three years and integrating technology into the Primary National Curriculum. She has attended professional development courses in the UK to keep up to date with current Literacy and Phonics delivery.
Karen is passionate about phonics, literacy and early reading skills as well as introducing technology into the classroom. She enjoys making learning experiences fun and engaging for both students and teachers.
